Leigh Sailes’ interview of Scott Morrison was intensely disappointing to me, as was the unbending attitude of George Brandis in Q & A. As a Liberal supporter alienated by John Howard’s blatant politicization of the asylum seeker issue several years ago, I had hope for a more cooperative attitude now.
Is it too much to hope for the present stalemate to be replaced by a fresh approach that melds firmness with compassion for all refugees in our region; a goal that demands cooperation with other nations?
Perhaps we should have a colloquium excluding politicians, to re-examine our options.
