About The Author, Ken Robson

I graduated from the University of Adelaide Medical School with a Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1960.

My postgraduate degree was Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of surgery (FRACS) in General Surgery, passed in 1967.

I was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship in that year enabling me to train in reconstructive surgery for Hansen’s disease (leprosy) at Vellore, South India.

For four years I worked in Papua-New Guinea, based at Togoba Hospital, Mount Hagen, in the Western Highlands, performing reconstructive surgery.

Following further training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, UK, I established a Private Practice in Adelaide in 1976, with a public Consultant position at the Repatriation General Hospital.

I retired at the end of 2000, building a retirement home at Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills. The Technical Analysis interest stemmed from a need to look after our own Self Managed Super Fund.

I am a member of the Australian Technical Analyst Association (ATAA) and have passed the two subjects required to become a Certified Financial Technician (CFTe) by the International Federation of Technical Analysts.

  1. Hi Ken, Ken here! Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you enjoyed it. I’ve had a little check out of yours in return and I’m looking forward to learning about Technical Analysis. I’m interested in your surgical work as we see a lot of re constructive work at LAMB, Bangladesh in the form of cleft lip and other things. I’m not medical myself but my wife works with children with clubfeet in corrective treatment. there are posts on the blog if you are interested. Best wishes! Ken

    • Hi, Ken. I am another refugee of the Bookmakers super Fund [ now rebadged Progress super ] and when, in December 2013, I eventually recieved my previous year super statement this is what it said to me. The Super Statement
You trusted us, what a fool
      We’ve taken your money
and there’s nothing you can do.
It might seem we are mocking you
      but we just don’t care.
Don’t care to respect that your future is blighted.
Don’t care to respect the long hours of work,
discipline of saving, the denial to accumulate.
No,we have ours [ who care that it was yours]
and there’s nothing you can do about it.
What’s that? Go to the big umpire.
O.K. but you’ll find them busy polishing their badge.
      No, we’re not even sorry.
      It’s just bussiness.
      Too good to pass up.

The sheer volume of funds in super cannot but attract sharks; what needed is on going, effective policing without which faith in super as a safe refuge for peoples retirement funds will dissolve.
Thanks for the forum. p.s. my apologies to the amphibious sharks.

  5. Hi Ken,
Many thanks for all your good work in support of Technical Analysis and the ATAA.
Keep up the good work, and all the very best for 2015 and beyond.
    Robert Brain
    (ATAA Operations Manager)

    • I really appreciate this encouraging message Robert. The ATAA has been just the most helpful organisation for me in my retirement, and I am deeply appreciative of the time-consuming work you and others perform for members.
May I return your kind wishes for every success in the coming year.

  6. hello, came across this page by accident, I worked with you at Hutt Street Private Hospital in theatre back in the 70’s
    Libby

    • Dear Libby,
I was delighted to hear from you after all these years. We are now living in a retirement village (Adventist Retirement Village at Victoria Point 4165) not far from our eldest daughter, and I have just reached the venerable age of 85.
      I trust you are well,
      Kindest regards,
      Ken
